Jessee Filan--135 title fight

Jessee did not fight tonight because his opponent did not make weight. The first chance weigh ins were Friday night. The other fighter showed up smelling like liquor and weighing in at 145. The promoters and commission gave him until 3 pm Saturday to make weight. He showed up and weighed in at 143.

Jessee trained hard and maintained good nutritional habits to prepare for this fight. He weighed 144 a week out from the fight and weighed in at 133 at Friday night weigh ins. After driving to Medford and staying the night there in anticipation for a 135 title fight, he was rightfully disappointed.

As expected the promoter asked Jessee to fight the overweight opponent as a non-title fight.

Jessee asked me what he should do. I told him that as an amateur, he is in no way obligated to fight (no payment/no contract). The opponent failed to make weight and the promoter failed to provide an alternate fighter for the 135 title. Jessee held up to what was expected of him. Jessee and I decided that it was best if he just pack it up and head home.

The promoter offered him another title opportunity for the upcoming April 10th Roseburg show. That happens to be the same weekend as the 2010 Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Pan American Championships. We'll see what happens.
